The Tithing Challenge:

Inspiring Generosity to Empower Our Ministry

   September 7th-November 30th, 2025

A Call for the Congregation to Partner in Faith and Generosity

Introduction

Tithing is more than a tradition; it is a spiritual discipline and an act of worship that invites each believer to participate actively in God’s work. It is an invitation to trust, to step out in faith, and to experience the blessings that come from putting God first in all areas of our lives—including our finances. Today, as a ministry dedicated to bringing hope, healing, and spiritual growth, we extend a heartfelt challenge to our congregation: to embrace tithing fully and join to support the work God has entrusted to us.

The Biblical Foundation of Tithing

Tithing, the practice of giving ten percent of one’s income or resources, has its roots deep within Scripture. In Genesis 14:19-20, Abram gives a tenth of all he has to Melchizedek, the priest of God Most High, in gratitude and recognition of God’s provision. The principle is reiterated in Leviticus 27:30, where God declares, “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.”

In Malachi 3:10, God extends a bold promise: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this… and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Here, God invites us not only to obey but to trust—and to witness the transformative power of generosity.

Why Tithing Matters for Our Ministry

Our ministry flourishes when we are united in purpose and generosity. The support of the congregation through tithes enables us to:

  • Nurture Spiritual Growth: Funding programs for children, youth, and adults that cultivate faith and discipleship.
  • Serve Our Community: Supporting outreach initiatives, food pantries, and benevolence programs that minister to those in need.
  • Maintain Our Ministry Operations: Providing for the upkeep of our facilities, resources for worship, and the salaries of those who lead and serve.
  • Expand Our Reach: Investing in missions, local and global, to share the love of Christ beyond our walls.

When we give, we are not merely fulfilling an obligation; we are sowing seeds for a harvest of changed lives and lasting impact.

The Tithing Challenge: An Invitation to All

We are inviting each member of our congregation to take part in a 90-Day Tithing Challenge. This is a bold, faith-filled opportunity to honor God with your finances and to experience firsthand His provision and faithfulness.

How the Challenge Works

  • For the next 90 days, commit to giving a full tithe—ten percent of your income—to support the ministry.
  • Pray regularly, asking God to deepen your trust and to reveal His faithfulness.
  • Journal your experiences—challenges, breakthroughs, and blessings—over the course of the challenge.
  • At the end of the 90 days, reflect on how God has worked in your life and our community.

Taking the First Step

Tithing can be a challenge, especially if it is new or if finances are tight. We encourage you to begin where you are and trust God to help you grow. Start by praying over your decision, seeking wisdom, and inviting your family into the journey. Remember, tithing is not about the amount, but about the heart—an act of faith and obedience.

Testimonies of Transformation

Many in our congregation have already experienced the joy and blessing of giving. Here are just a few stories of how tithing  has made a difference:

  • “When we started tithing, we were worried about making ends meet. But God provided in unexpected ways, and we’ve never looked back.”
  • “Tithing isn’t just about money—it’s about trust. Each month, we see God’s faithfulness in our family and our finances.”
  • “Through tithing, I’ve learned to release control and let God lead. The peace that comes from that is worth more than anything I could buy.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is tithing required to be part of the congregation?

No, tithing is not a requirement for fellowship. It is a voluntary act of worship and faith.

What if I am unable to tithe the full ten percent?

Begin by giving what you are able, and pray for God to increase your faith and resources. The journey of generosity is unique for each individual.

Can I tithe in ways other than money?

Gifts of time, talents, and resources are all valuable, but the tithe traditionally refers to financial giving. However, we encourage holistic generosity in all areas of life.

How are tithes used within the ministry?

All tithes support the vision and mission of our church: funding operations, outreach, spiritual development, and missions.

Practical Steps for Giving

  • Review your finances and prayerfully determine your tithe.
  • Set up recurring giving online or through offering envelopes available at each service.
  • Join a small group or accountability partner to encourage one another on the journey.
  • Attend informational sessions to learn more about stewardship and the impact of your giving.

Conclusion: Let Us Build Together

The work of the ministry is far-reaching and deeply impactful, but it requires the faithful partnership of each member. As you consider the Tithing Challenge, remember that you are not alone—your step of faith is joined by a community committed to serving God and our neighbors. Imagine what we can accomplish together when we each give our part!

We invite you to pray, to seek, and to respond to this call. Let us build a legacy of generosity and faithfulness that will bless generations to come.

Commitment cards will be available on August 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st. Please ensure your commitment card is returned by September 7th. Additionally, if you already tithe to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, you are encouraged to consider contributing beyond your regular tithe.

May God bless you as you give, and may our ministry flourish as we trust Him together.

Peace and Blessings
